How I Stay on Track While Traveling

This weekend my husband and I are going to Foamfest! It can be hard to stick to your goals while traveling so I thought I would share a few tips I swear by so I can stay on track while on the road.

How I Stay on Track While Traveling

  1. Free Breakfast – If your hotel offers free breakfast you should definitely take advantage of it. Not only will you save money, but they often offer a few healthier options like oatmeal, fruits, and yogurt.
  2. Snacks – Pack snacks before you leave. Bring fruits, veggies, and nuts.
  3. Have a Plan – When you are planning your activities make sure you leave yourself some time for a workout – or better yet plan some activities that will get the family moving.
  4. Fast Food Joints – If you have to eat at a fast food place check what the healthiest choices are. Check out this list for healthy options at the major fast food places.
  5. Fitness – If your hotel has a pool or gym, you can get your workouts in. If your hotel doesn’t offer these amenities, you can always go outside and go for a walk or run, or even find a local park. IF you aren’t able to get outside, check out these workouts you can do in a hotel room. Lot’s of options!
  6. Keep Track – If you are used to counting calories and keeping a fitness journal, make sure you keep it up while on vacation.

When you are making your reservations, make sure you check out if your hotel offers free breakfast, if they have a fitness room or pool, and what the surrounding area is like. If you can’t exercise inside, can you exercise outside? If you take a look you might even find a park with walking trails nearby.

The best thing you can do for yourself is plan, plan, plan. Make sure you have your healthy snacks, meals, and your workout plan figured out.

The most important thing to remember is that while you are on vacation is to have fun! Allow for some wiggle room, but don’t forget your health and fitness goals. Especially if you are planning an extended vacation. Taking one day ‘off’ isn’t going to be as detrimental as a week long vacation. It’s hard to bounce back from that, not only on your body, but your mind too.
