Before we know it, snow and cold weather will be here. My family travels a lot in the winter and there’s a few things we make sure we have in our vehicles in the colder months. Better safe then sorry!

What's in your winter safety kit?

Canadian winters are TOUGH! Snow storms, ice, and slush are things we need to watch out for when driving in the winter. Making sure you have good winter tires is definitely something you should do before the first snowfall hits, but there are a few other things you should keep in your car in case of emergencies!

We have a checklist we go through to make sure we are well prepared:

  1. Spare Tire
  2. Jumper Cables
  3. Spare Blankets (or two)
  4. Hats, gloves, scarves
  5. Flash light and batteries
  6. Matches and candles
  7. Seat belt cutter/window breaking tool

We recently changed our vehicle’s cabin air filter too. Guys… Did you know your car has an cabin air filter? Because I did not. When we pulled the old one out of the vehicle it was so nasty! Changing your cabin air filter frequently ensures that you have clean and fresh air!

New Filter vs. Old Filter

Air that flows through our vehicle’s ventilation system contains a lot of contaminants like dust and pollen. The FRAM FreshBreeze Cabin air filter can filter out 98% of contaminants like dust and pollen, plus the baking soda helps absorb odors that pass through the filter.

It was pretty simple to change, once we found the spot where the filter goes! We got the filter replaced in just 4 easy steps:

  • Remove kick panel next to the gas/brake pedals
  • Remove the clip that secures the filter
  • Remove the old, dirty cabin air filter
  • Replace with a clean filter

Squeeze the filter when you put it in!

The whole process took less then 10 minutes! My husband was happy to report that he noticed a difference immediately when driving to work!

We found our air filters at Canadian Tire, in the automotive section:
